Hi there! My name is Hori and I'm the founder of Astro Nova. I have a Bachelors of Science in Astrophysics with a research thesis on Physics Education, and I am enrolled at the University of Calgary to complete my second degree - a Bachelors of Education so I can pursue a career as a high school teacher! My passion for teaching started over a decade ago, when I was a lifeguard and swim instructor part time to get me through high school. I initially enrolled in the Astrophysics program upon graduation but I always felt a calling towards education, and quickly decided to move forward from teaching swimming lessons to tutoring math and science.
To date I've been tutoring for about 8 years and have been teaching in general for more than a decade. As I grew professionally and gained experience, I thought it was time I take my tutoring services into my own hands and start my own company. In this way I could apply my own style that I have seen bring success to so many students, properly research effective education methods during my degree, and ensure that I find like-minded, energetic tutors to work with me in making math and science education fun for all students.
By starting my own company I can take every lesson learned from my experience and research into consideration and incorporate them into the pedagogy provided for our tutoring clients here at Astro Nova, as well as for my future role as a teacher!
